Zhou Wu returned to Zhou Family Village, spending his days catching fish in the river and diligently practicing the techniques from the mnemonic rhymes.

The Soul Startle Spike lurking within him became increasingly obedient. With a mere thought, it could travel within a three-to-five-meter radius around him, swift as lightning.

Its unparalleled sharpness allowed it to pierce objects almost silently. Coupled with its transparent nature, making it difficult for the human eye to perceive, it was truly the ultimate weapon for an assassin.

This made catching fish incredibly easy. As long as Zhou Wu saw a fish within range, it essentially had no chance of escaping.

With no obstacles to catching fish, grilled fish became Zhou Wu’s favorite.

On a flat patch of ground by the riverbank, leaping flames licked a large fish on a wooden frame, its oil dripping into the fire, creating sizzling sounds.

Suddenly, his brow twitched, sensing unusual activity around him.

It was already night, and apart from the gentle breeze rustling, causing the firelight to flicker, there were no strange noises.

But Zhou Wu was certain that someone or something was moving nearby, and it was threatening.

He didn’t need to know why; his instincts naturally told him so.

His body remained seated, but his attention had shifted to the surrounding darkness.

Four dark shadows, each heading in a different direction, floated silently towards Zhou Wu on the breeze.

Zhou Wu picked up the wine pot next to him, took a swig, and sliced off a piece of fish with his knife, stuffing it into his mouth.

“Hmm, still a bit undercooked. This waiting is the most agonizing.”

He muttered to himself.

An old, raspy voice echoed from the darkness.

“I wonder if this old man could have a share?”

As the voice spoke, an elderly man with white hair and beard appeared opposite the fire, his face ruddy in the firelight.

Zhou Wu smiled, “Are you the only one who wants a share?”

“This humble one would also like a portion.”

“Me too.”

“I want some too.”

The four figures emerged, encircling Zhou Wu.

Zhou Wu remained still, calmly saying, “I’m afraid there’s not enough to share.”

The old man suddenly changed the subject.

“Are you Zhou Wu, the Region Chief Officer of Zhou Family Village?”

Zhou Wu took a sip of wine, not speaking.

“Why bother with the chatter? Just take him down and ask questions later.”

The young voice said impatiently.

Zhou Wu chuckled, “Won’t you wait for the fish to cook before eating it?”

“Without you, the fish will still cook.”

As the last word faded, there was a *clang*, the sound of a blade being drawn.

Zhou Wu sat cross-legged on a blue stone, his body motionless, but his mind was in motion.

After the blade was drawn, there was no further sound. The four figures took a few steps forward, disappearing into the darkness.

The fish was finally ready to eat. Zhou Wu ate his fill, cleaned up, and walked into the shadows.

The four people lay scattered in the weeds. The one thing they had in common was a hole drilled into their heads, the blood already dried.

In a single instant, the four had died painlessly.

The power of the Soul Startle Spike was astonishing.

Dugou Qingping (False) never reappeared either.

According to her, Zhou Wu had been out of the Soul Severing Cliff for over a year, so the poison in his body should have already erupted.

But Zhou Wu felt nothing, and no one gave him an antidote.

Presumably, Soul Severing Cliff had given up on him.

Zhou Wu knew that as an assassin, his actions had been too significant, attracting the attention of the government and various sects.

But until now, they hadn’t figured out his identity, and were likely still waiting.

If Soul Severing Cliff tried to contact him, the spies lurking in the shadows would probably notice, bringing the organization a disaster.

Zhou Wu decided to leave Zhou Family Village and develop in a bigger city. Staying here would lead to nothing.

After stabilizing his cultivation, Zhou Wu packed his belongings and headed north.

He wanted to venture into the Great Zhou capital for a while, broaden his horizons, and see the world.

Perhaps he would face even more formidable opponents.

The road ahead was filled with unknowns, making Zhou Wu both excited and apprehensive.
