CLG Chapter 37
by REX-NOVELISTSMo Wenli squatted on the roadside, watching vehicles whizz past. The sound of tires rolling over the road was grating on her nerves. She didn’t know if her choice was right or wrong, but the scattered cigarette butts on the ground expressed her current mood. The wind today was quite chilly, and after squatting outside for almost half an hour, she couldn’t help but shiver.
Meng Yue told Mo Wenli that she couldn’t be alone in a room with Chen Xuelin; Mo Wenli had to be there too.
“I’m at the entrance.”
“She went in.” Meng Huan watched quietly from a seat nearby. As soon as Mo Wenli entered the room, she dialed Meng Yue’s phone and quietly followed behind Mo Wenli. She composed herself, trying to look normal, and cautiously glanced at Mo Wenli as she pushed open the room door.
A minute after Mo Wenli entered the room, Meng Yue came out of the next private room. The sisters exchanged a glance in the narrow passageway, and Meng Yue followed her into room 215.
“Really?” Meng Huan smiled slightly, her slightly dry eyebrows raising in question.
“If it weren’t for the different clothes and hairstyle, I almost thought it was you.”
“No problem. You can go back early too; there aren’t many customers today anyway.”
This was the imperfect solution Meng Yue could think of. After all, at this time, anyone who came in would be able to discover such a situation. Mo Wenli, an uncontrollable factor, could come back at any time. Since there wasn’t enough time to deal with the body, she would just let someone else become the “murderer.”
“It wasn’t me! I just came in, and he was like this!” Mo Wenli explained.
“Blood?”
Chen Xuelin was dead. If Mo Wenli was the only one in the room, there was no way she could clear herself of suspicion.
“I thought he was drunk and fell here.”
“It really wasn’t me!” Mo Wenli shouted, while leaning towards Meng Yue, trying to explain clearly.
Meng Yue looked at her with a sneer. “Besides us, there’s no one else here. I saw everything clearly.”
Meng Yue’s words made her feel scared because she really was the only one here. She also looked down and saw the blood on her hands.
Mo Wenli was terrified. She explained again, “It wasn’t me; I didn’t do anything.” She panicked instantly and didn’t know what to do.
“I didn’t do anything. What should I do, Meng Yue?” Mo Wenli grabbed Meng Yue’s hand, repeating her words and asking the friend in front of her. She hoped that Meng Yue could help her.
“Even if he fell and died, if I hadn’t drank with him, would he have fallen if he wasn’t drunk?” Meng Yue sighed. “Let’s just carry him out.” She tried as much as possible to shift the responsibility onto Mo Wenli.
Meng Yue didn’t run away but pulled Mo Wenli to sit beside her. “Is there anyone else here?”
“What do you mean?”
“It wasn’t me, it wasn’t me.” Mo Wenli was still denying it, looking in surprise at Meng Yue, whose expression had become calm.
Meng Yue continued, “Should we call the police?”
“What will happen if we call the police?” Mo Wenli grabbed Meng Yue’s hand.
Meng Yue pondered for a moment. She looked at Mo Wenli, “Then my complicated relationship with him will definitely be exposed. As for whether or not I’m the murderer…”
If Chen Xuelin died for no reason, she would definitely be the first person the police investigated.
“How do we get rid of him?” Mo Wenli nodded blankly.
Mo Wenli shook her head.
“I’ll listen to you.”
“Okay.” Mo Wenli didn’t know what to do, but she really didn’t want her and Chen Xuelin’s vested interests to be exposed.
“No, we were all doing it secretly.”
“Take off my coat; it has blood on it.”
“But…”
Mo Wenli was still a little nervous, but with a determined heart, she did as she was told.
Just like Meng Yue said, the front desk asked her what was wrong. Mo Wenli said someone was drunk and needed help getting out. The front desk found a female waiter to help Mo Wenli. After all, people who went to such places often got drunk, and occasionally there were guys who were completely unconscious.
After Mo Wenli and the waiter walked out, Meng Yue came out of the bathroom. She took out the ashtray she had hidden earlier, wrapped it in Mo Wenli’s coat, and then, clutching the clothes, pushed open the private room door and walked out of the side back door that Meng Huan had told her about, with her head lowered, so no one will see her.
The waiter carried the woman, and Mo Wenli followed him smoothly to the car. With great difficulty, they placed him in the back seat. At this time, a few raindrops finally fell, and it looked like it was going to rain here. “Should I close the car door?” the waiter asked.
“He has a friend.”
“Really?” the waiter asked suspiciously because he hadn’t seen anyone else outside the private room just now. But since she said so, he didn’t have any extra responsibility.
After the waiter walked back, Meng Yue appeared beside Mo Wenli from nowhere. They got the car keys from Chen Xuelin.
“It’s raining.” Feeling the rain, Meng Yue spread out her hand and saw the raindrops. In the distance, there was black lightning flashing on the mountains.
Meng Yue didn’t get into the passenger seat but opened the back door, moved his legs a little, and sat in the back.
They planned to go back to their residence first. Whether it was disposing of the body or finding a place to bury it, they needed tools. Moreover, there were no suitable places to bury people nearby.
Along the way, Mo Wenli was terrified, and her hands were sweating profusely.
Soon after turning on the car, a torrential rain fell from the sky. In an instant, there was no one on the street, and the line of sight became blurred.
After they left, a car in the rear turned on its headlights and quickly drove away from the place.
Because of the heavy rain, Mo Wenli had to slow down. Twenty minutes later, she parked the car downstairs in the residential area. Braving the heavy rain, the two carried the body to the room.
“Meng Yue, what should we do now?” She had no one to rely on, and she didn’t dare to call her mother. That woman hated her for causing trouble the most.
If the police found her, she estimated she would be scolded to death.
“There’s no way. If you don’t want to be discovered, you can only dispose of the body. When the police ask, even if they suspect us, they have no body, no evidence, so they can’t do anything to us.”
Mo Wenli was quite touched. The person who could still stand by her side at this time was actually Meng Yue.
She went to the bathroom to find a towel, and the two wiped their hair dry. Sitting on the sofa, they prepared to deal with the body. Mo Wenli didn’t want him to spend the night here.
“Yes.”
“Don’t worry, just go.” Meng Yue took the tools and dragged the body into the bathroom.
“Yes, yes.” Mo Wenli nodded quickly, dragging out a large suitcase from the bedroom. At this time, she didn’t dare to look directly at Meng Yue’s appearance and could only quickly hand her the things and run back to the bedroom.
She dragged the body to the kitchen. After a while, she knocked on Mo Wenli’s bedroom door.
“It’s done. Let’s go out.” Meng Yue knocked on Mo Wenli’s door.
Mo Wenli came out. There was no blood on Meng Yue’s face. Meng Yue pointed in the direction of the kitchen. Half a suitcase was placed there. “Go over and take a look.”
Mo Wenli swallowed and slowly walked over with courage. Seeing Mo Wenli turn around and walk into the kitchen behind her, she took out a piece of clothing from behind and walked into her bedroom, crouching down and stuffing it into the corner under her bed.
Meng Yue heard a sound of vomiting. She walked to the kitchen and saw Mo Wenli holding a trash can and kneeling on the ground, making sounds…
After packing the body, Meng Yue looked at Mo Wenli. “Let’s find a place to dispose of it.”
“You go dispose of the body. As for those tools and clothes, I’ll take care of them.”
“I’ve already helped you deal with the person. You can’t even handle these trivial matters.”
Seeing Mo Wenli nod in agreement, she put her clothes and Mo Wenli’s clothes in a black plastic bag. After washing the knife and saw clean, she also stuffed them in.
It was one o’clock in the morning. Meng Yue closed the curtains. There was lightning and thunder outside, and the rain was getting heavier and heavier, without any sign of stopping.
The weather couldn’t be more suitable.
“Dispose of it now?”
“Otherwise? Wait for the police to come before we act?”
“But it’s raining heavily outside.”
“Isn’t that better? No one will be outside in this weather. It’s safest to go out now.”
Mo Wenli felt there was some truth to it. The two found an umbrella each, opened the door, one dragging a suitcase and the other carrying a plastic bag, and brought a shovel. The two threw the things into the trunk, got in the car, and headed straight for the east side of the city.
“I’ll bury the suitcase under the bridge.” Meng Yue threw the shovel to Mo Wenli, while she carried the bag herself and walked towards the woods beside the path.
Mo Wenli held up the umbrella, her arm trembling so much that she could hardly hold it. She could only hear the sound of the suitcase sliding on the ground.
Under the bridge, a woman was trying to use her camera to take pictures in the heavy rain. She hurriedly adjusted a few positions below, but because the rain was too heavy, she found that she couldn’t take a clear picture at all. After hesitating for a while, she turned around to leave, but found another woman standing in front of her.
She had a camera and almost screamed. Meng Yue made eye contact with her, and both were standing in the rain.
Meng Yue was holding a short knife in her hand, which was very dazzling under the illumination of the street light in front of her. The woman took two steps back in fear.
A few seconds later, perhaps seeing that Meng Yue did not attack her, she hurriedly wrapped her clothes tightly and ran away from the side of the road. As they brushed past each other, they both saw each other’s eyes.
Back in the car, the woman was breathing rapidly. Thinking of the knife in that person’s hand and the cold eyes, she still felt lingering fear. She quickly started the car and drove away from the place…
Meng Yue turned her head, watching the taillights of the car disappear into the rainy night.
