October 2009. The holiday had just ended, and the temperature began to cool down. It was clear that autumn had officially arrived.

This autumn was different from previous years, not only because the temperature was dropping, but also because Meng Yue’s heart was filled with worry. Returning from Meng Huan’s place, she sat on her bed in the dormitory with her head hanging low. Her name was missing from the thesis she had worked on for half a year, meaning that she would likely be unable to graduate next year because she couldn’t complete the project.

No one suspected Chen Xuelin of any wrongdoing; they just thought there might be some “misunderstanding” between Meng Yue and him. After all, that man was a respected teacher at the school.

For a month, from the beginning of the semester until now, she had been running around for this matter. Only now did she realize that no one thought this was important except for her. The matter hadn’t been resolved, and the school leaders were just passing the buck. The promised investigation had disappeared without a trace. Meng Yue seemed to already know the outcome. Thinking of this, Meng Yue felt both sad and ashamed.

Mo Wenli seemed to know what she had done and began to actively avoid her. The two rarely appeared in the same place.

Mo Wenli hadn’t gone anywhere these days, and she hadn’t said anything. To avoid embarrassment, Meng Yue chose to spend a few days at Meng Huan’s place.

In the evening, inside a hotel, twilight shone in through the window.

Seeing the beautiful woman, the boss immediately recognized her. Meng Yue had often gone there since last year. The two could be considered old acquaintances. They didn’t know each other’s names, but they would occasionally chat when they met there.

“Why are you buying so many things? You look happy,” the boss said with a smile, seeing the two plastic bags in her hand, which looked heavy, but her face was beaming with a cheerful smile.

“Working so early,” Meng Yue sat on the sofa with her legs crossed, squeezing out a smile after seeing Meng Huan enter.

Meng Yue’s reaction was cold. Meng Huan was no longer the carefree little girl. How could she not see that her sister was troubled? Thinking of her recent worried expressions, Meng Huan had a few guesses in her mind.

Meng Yue was silent for a while. She shook her head, “It’s okay, nothing’s wrong.” Meng Yue also adjusted her emotions and quickly returned to normal. She didn’t want to bring her emotions to Meng Huan.

Seeing Meng Yue’s slightly puzzled expression, “Oh, go home, our home.”

“Yes, that’s our home. I went to ask a few days ago, and it only costs 100,000 yuan,” Meng Huan said excitedly.

After her thesis was “stolen” by Mo Wenli, she might not be able to graduate next year. Chen Xuelin didn’t seem to care about her now either. Thinking of this, Meng Yue sighed in her heart. She had to solve the problem in front of her.

At night, the two had a good meal in the living room. Meng Yue told Meng Huan that she wanted to find a part-time job. Unexpectedly, Meng Huan didn’t object this time.

Meng Yue bit her lip, “It’s the autumn recruitment season now, and there are many jobs. I’ll take a look.” In fact, she knew in her heart that she wanted to escape. She felt that she might not be able to graduate smoothly, so it would be better to find a job to share some of the pressure with Meng Huan.

These two years had been too painful. She never thought that she would have such a hard time while studying.

“Okay, whatever you think is best. Anyway, I’ll listen to you.”

“Um… It’s okay.” Meng Yue didn’t tell Meng Huan about this because she knew Meng Huan’s personality. If she knew that she had suffered such injustice, she might rush to the school to demand an explanation.

Just when Meng Yue didn’t know how to deal with it, Chen Xuelin took the initiative to give her a call, which she didn’t expect. Chen Xuelin actually asked her to talk privately.

The sun on the hilltop had fallen halfway, and the afterglow was still beautiful through the sky. Meng Huan prepared to go out, “Wait for me, I’m going out too,” Meng Yue shouted from behind.

Her work basically started in the evening and ended in the early hours of the morning. She rarely saw Meng Yue go out near nightfall.

“Something to do.” Meng Yue casually explained.

“You’re over there too?”

“Yes.”

There were many entertainment venues in this area. Meng Huan’s workplace was across the street. Meng Huan squinted her eyes and looked over, “It’s very close to me. Okay, I’m leaving then.”

Pushing open the door, Meng Yue didn’t see the man she wanted to see, but another person.

Mo Wenli was sitting in the private room. Seeing someone pushing the door open, she knew it was Meng Yue. Her table was full of cans of alcohol. “Go, sit,” she patted the seat next to her.

Closing the door, the ambient lighting in the room was colorful, but Meng Yue only felt that it was dazzling. She didn’t expect to see Mo Wenli here. Clearly, Mo Wenli and Chen Xuelin must have some relationship.

Mo Wenli glanced at Meng Yue, who was staring at her with suspicion, “Let’s play a game, one drink for one question, how about it?” she said.

From the moment she snatched Meng Yue’s hard work, she knew that there was no possibility for her and Meng Yue to be friends again. After all, others didn’t know Meng Yue’s hard work, but she knew it.

Mo Wenli pushed the wine glass in front of Meng Yue and slowly filled it with wine.

“I refuse, I’m not here to find you.”

Mo Wenli would occasionally peek at Meng Yue. She didn’t understand why Chen Xuelin was so obsessed with this woman. She clearly had the same beautiful face as Meng Yue. Why did that man want so much after getting her?

Was this man so attractive to him? Although Mo Wenli didn’t understand, she knew that she seemed to be jealous in her heart, jealous of this former good friend. Meng Yue clearly hadn’t even contacted Chen Xuelin, but she had won his heart. She had given everything, but she could only seem to be dead in someone else’s shadow.

“My first question, what is my relationship with Chen Xuelin?”

Hearing this answer from Mo Wenli’s own mouth, Meng Yue was silent.

“What else? There can’t just be this one question. You haven’t asked what you’re most concerned about.”

Mo Wenli poured her another glass. Meng Yue frowned, but after hesitating, she drank it again.

Ashes fell from her fingertips. The faint smoke made Meng Yue unable to help but cover her nose with her fingers. She didn’t like this environment. She stared at Mo Wenli and asked.

“Meng Yue, I’m always like this.” Hearing this, Mo Wenli paused slightly, her voice a little hoarse. She put out the cigarette butt and looked at Meng Yue lightly, “I don’t know, but it’s pretty cool.”

He had taken over this shop from a friend. The purpose of closing the shop today was only one, and that was Meng Yue.

Meng Yue was now lying in the private room, like a lamb to be slaughtered.

Chen Xuelin pushed open the door, but one of his hands was grabbed. It was Mo Wenli. She looked at him and said in a low voice, “Does it have to be like this?”

It had been a long time. The last time he was so excited was when he first met Li Shuxuan.

A few minutes later, he carried Meng Yue to the apartment that Mo Wenli rented. He asked Mo Wenli to come along. Mo Wenli didn’t refuse.

Near midnight, Meng Huan sneaked out during a break to give Meng Yue a call, but it showed that the line was busy. She went outside and stood on the side of the road, staring at the song hall and several other entertainment venues across the street.

“Where is Meng Yue…” Meng Huan stood on the side of the road, wondering to herself.

By the time she returned home, it was past midnight. Pushing open the door, it was pitch black, and there was no sound. Not a single light was on, and Meng Yue wasn’t in her room either.

This was rare. Meng Yue rarely came home late.

Perhaps she was still playing with friends? Looking at the unanswered phone, Meng Huan thought to herself.
